Girl Scouts (Ages 11-17)

Ready to Become, Belong, Believe, and Build

Girls ages 11-17 participate in Girl Scouting in many ways. Under the guidance of a trained adult advisor, girls mix and match activities and resources to suit their needs while giving back to their communities. They connect with each other and build self-esteem and confidence in their skills as they work on a range of projects and gain life experiences.

What do Older girls wear?
Older girls can choose between a vest or a sash on which to store all their badges. Uniforms are never required.

What awards do Older girls earn?
Older girls can earn a variety of awards including Interest Projects which delve deeply into a variety of different subjects.

Older girls can also earn the Girl Scout Silver Award
The Girl Scout Silver Award represents a girl's accomplishments in Girl Scouting and her community as she grows and works to improve her life and the lives of others. The first four requirements of the Girl Scout Silver Award help girls build skills, explore careers, gain leadership skills, and make a commitment to self-improvement. The Girl Scout Silver Award Project can be undertaken when the first four requirements are completed. It can be done as an individual or with a group. If done with a group, a girl must be responsible for a specific part of the project and evaluate her contribution to the project and the group.

And finally, Older girls can earn the Girl Scout Gold Award
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout 14-17 may earn. Someone once described the Girl Scout Gold Award as being "what you really want to be remembered for" in Girl Scouting. For many, the leadership skills, organizational skills, and sense of community and commitment that come from "going for the Gold" set the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship
