Camping
North East Texas Council has 6 camps available for Girl Scout use:
- Camp Rocky Point. . .
- is located on Lake Texoma just 8 miles outside of Denison, Texas.
Platform tent units, overlooking the lake, and a lodge unit are available
as well as a primitive camp area. Program facilities include: a waterfront
area on Lake Texoma for sailing, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming; a
sports/games area; and hiking trails.
- Camp Bette Perot. . .
- is located 100 miles SE of the Dallas area, between Athens and Palestine,
Texas. Units include cabins, lodges, or platform tents and a primitive
area. Program facilities include: an equestrian center; swimming pool;
ropes/challenge course; extensive nature study sites; and a sports/games
area.
- Camp Whispering Cedars. . .
- is located 20 minutes from downtown Dallas. Units are cabins and one
lodge-type unit. Program facilities include: swimming pool; nature study
sites; ham radio station; and a day use area with cookout facility.
A large central meeting/conference room is available for special events.
- Camp Gambill
- is a beautifully wooded 54-acre facility. Featuring a sandy waterfront,
Camp Gambill has a swimming area protected by a floating pier, up-to-date
canoeing, kayaking and sailing equipment, a low elements rope course,
a sand volleyball court and other outdoor activities. Hiking trails
weave amid the trees that cover the inland camping areas and a tranquil
pond offers opportunities to discover marine life. Modern cabins make
available safe housing for campers, with showers and latrine facilities
nearby. Central to the camp are an air-conditioned infirmary and Gander
Hall - our dining and kitchen facilities. Troop House also has room
for bunks, troop camp events, etc and also has kitchen and restrooms.
- Camp K (Kadohadacho)
- is located on Lake Texoma in Pottsboro that has tent and primitive areas. There are 2-3 platforms to pitch tents; access to bath house; fire circle; NO activity house or kitchen. They have flush toilets, showers, and sinks. Waterfront activities are available, but troops must provide own waterfront certified lifeguard.
- Camp Whispering Oaks
- is located just outside of Aubrey, Texas.It is a heavily wooded, hilly
40 acres of land, completely fenced in, with abundant plant and animal
life. It features a large troop house and platform tents as well as
areas for primitive camping.
