Frito Lay's 8-9-10 Project
Very latest updates: http://www.gsnetx.org/Default.aspx?tabid=169&vw=3&ItemID=527&d=20100809
Updates on the 8-9-10 project: (Click to download flyer.)
- Frito-Lay and Kroger are partnering to get the word out! We will be hosting a Media Event Kickoff on Monday, August 9th to celebrate 8-9-10. We are inviting the general public and the media to the Kroger store on Mockingbird Lane (5665 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, 75206).
The event will begin at 9am, with brief remarks by Nancy Loewe, Frito-Lay Chief Financial Officer, the principal of the KIPP TRUTH Academy and the Chief Marketing Officer from the North Texas Food Bank.
We especially hope we will have a lot of Girl Scouts who will bring their 8 cans and 9 gently used books – we want to show the media how the Girl Scouts give back! A Frito-Lay truck will be ready to receive the donations right there. (The truck will leave at 10am on Aug 9 but a donation bin will be in the lobby inside for those who can’t attend).
- To build on the momentum of this event, we have shifted the collection window dates forward to Aug 9-Aug 23. This change is effective for ALL five Kroger drop off locations. We moved the dates to tie it to 8-9-10 and make it easier for donations – no one has to remember the dates begin two weeks after 8-9-10. Now, just come by any of the designated Krogers within two weeks of Aug 9. There will be a donation bin in the lobby clearly marked for 8-9-10.
Here is the flyer showing the Aug 9-Aug 23 collection window so you can share it with your Troop.

Leader Meetings
Our leader meetings this year will be held at the Vista Ridge United Methodist Church – on the right side of Denton Tap, just past Market Street. We will meet at 7:00 p.m. in Wesley Hall, which is to your the OUTDOOR building on the North East corner of the property (NOT in the main building). There is childcare available but you must, must, must RSVP to childcare@vrumc.org by 5 PM Tuesday night. Give them the meeting date and time, child's name and age, your name, and your cell phone number, if you will have it with you.
Bank Accounts
It is important for each troop to have a dedicated bank account in the troop's name. You can choose whichever bank you would like, but you must get approval from council. Click here to download the form (retrieved from the gsnetx website on 10/30/09).
Comerica Bank has been particularly helpful to many troops. They have even offered to come to your location to help you set up an account. It takes a $100 minimum deposit to open an account, but after that there is no minimum balance and there are NO FEES. Contact Sandra Jean Orta 972-393-1323 in the Coppell Office (128 North Denton Tap Road) or email her at sjorta@comerica.com. She was at the October Leader meeting to offer her help.
